Branch Spotlight: Pearl River
The Pearl River Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library has served patrons since the 1950s. The permanent location at 64580 Hwy. 41 was constructed and opened in the late 1980s.

This branch location is nestled in the community of Pearl River which itself is over 100 years old. Friendly, personal, small-town service is offered every day at this location. In addition, patrons will find useful and practical amenities like an after-hours Book Return, public computers, free Wifi during branch hours from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and also in the parking lot until 9 p.m. They also offer print, fax, and copy services for a small fee.

“Pearl River Branch’s proximity to Slidell offers patrons quick access to St. Tammany Parish Library’s holdings without the drive,” said Branch Manager, Adele Salzer.

We asked Adele what patrons can look forward to when visiting the Pearl River branch.  “Chances are if you have visited before, you will be greeted with a warm welcome, and by name. The artwork on our bulletin boards usually draws positive comments from our patrons, young and grown-up. Third and definitely, not least is being helped by our experienced, knowledgeable, friendly staff.”

The next phase of the strategic planning for services process is underway at the St. Tammany Parish Library. As announced in the Summer of 2021, Carson Block Consultants, and St. Tammany Parish Library leadership have conducted preliminary interviews with stakeholders, and local government, community, and business leaders. St. Tammany Parish Library staff have undergone focus group training, and will begin conducting focus groups within the coming weeks. On Monday, March 14, 2022, a community survey will be available to the entire St. Tammany community either online at  www.sttammanylibrary.org, or in every branch location to complete and return to library staff.

Information on how to participate in focus groups will also be posted on the St. Tammany Parish Library website — www.sttammanylibrary.org, social media channels  — Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter — and in branch locations. St. Tammany Parish Library staff will participate in strategic planning meetings March 14 and 15, 2022. A handful of branch location hours will be impacted as follows:

On Monday, March 14, the following branch locations will open at 2 p.m.: Madisonville, Causeway, and Covington

On Monday, March 14, the following branch locations will close at 12p.m.: Abita Springs, Bush, Folsom, Lee Road, and Pearl River.

On Tuesday, March 15, the following branch locations will open at 2 p.m.: Mandeville, Slidell, and South Slidell.

All branch hour adjustments will be posted in branch locations, on the St. Tammany Parish Library website, and on social media channels.

The data gathered through community research will be utilized to identify several key metrics including: aspirations of the community; strategic areas of focus, obstacles and opportunities; and potential library service strategies. The planning process will culminate with the creation of the Strategic Plan containing actionable and attainable library service goals, activities and objectives for the short, medium and long-term future.

The St. Tammany Parish Library is now established as a Funding Information Network partner of Candid — a nonprofit organization that supports nonprofits. As one of only three Funding Information Networks in the Southeastern Louisiana region, and the only Funding Information Network that provides training to the public, this designation will provide much-needed access to resources for local non-profits and fundraisers right here in St. Tammany. Slidell Branch Parking Lot Project to begin Soon
The Slidell Branch location parking lot project is slated to begin soon. Once underway, it is expected to take approximately four months, barring any weather delays. The project will add 93 parking spots for patrons. It will improve ADA accessibility to the south entrance of the Library. While the lot adjacent to the Library will be cleared, the natural treeline adjacent to the Forest Manor neighborhood will remain as a buffer. There is a mixture of trees in this buffer, including Persimmon trees, which will be preserved. In addition, 36 additional trees and 91 additional shrubs will be planted. The estimated cost of the project is $782,500. During construction, patrons will be asked to use available parking on the Robert Blvd. side of the Library.

The Friends of the Library of St. Tammany West, will benefit from the Community Bag Program during the month of March. For every reusable Community Bag purchased at the Winn Dixie store located at 70431 Hwy. 21 in Covington, the Friends will receive a $1 donation. Bags are sold for $2.99 each. Learn more here.
