Makerspace

The Madisonville Branch now has a Makerspace, an open workspace that offers tools and technology for patrons to create crafts and other projects.

Current Makerspace equipment includes a laser cutter, a 3D printer, a large-format printer, a sublimation printer with a heat press for garments and coffee mugs, and a Cricut machine. It also offers tools such as a sewing machine, a button maker, and a sticker maker.

On August 22nd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Makerspace will hold a grand opening to showcase all of the equipment the facility offers.

The Library has plans to include a Makerspace in the Slidell Library's (555 Robert Blvd.) renovations, providing East St. Tammany residents an opportunity to create projects closer to home.

Local Author to Host Writing Workshops

Award-winning local author David Armand is hosting three adult writing workshops at the Covington Branch on Aug. 10, 12 and 14.

From 2 to 3 p.m., Armand will walk participants through the world of writing with a focus on literary creativity, strengthening the craft and inspiring storytelling.

Women's Self Defense Class

Join us at the Slidell Branch (555 Robert Blvd.) on August 15th for this women-only Women's Self-Defense Workshop class!

Hosted by LivConfident Martial Arts, this workshop will begin at 1 p.m., teaching women self-defense strategies.

Dog Man Day

Families are invited to drop by the Mandeville Branch (844 Girod St.) on August 15th from 2 to 4 p.m. Join in on fun Dog Man crafts and activities, and potentially win a Dav Pilkey book!

To celebrate DOGust, the St. Tammany Department of Animal Services will also be coming out with dogs that are available for adoption.

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany's Used Book Sale will be on Friday & Saturday, August 14th and 15th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their new address, 321 W. 29th Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

The Friends had their first sale at their new location on July 17th and July 18th.

They are accepting book donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please note that they do not accept encyclopedias, magazines, LP records or VHS tapes. For those interested in volunteering, call Alice at (479) 244-0503 for more information.

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their monthly Used Book Sale on Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th in the Slidell Library meeting room.

August 28th - Members' Preview Sale, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
August 29th - Public Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Members' Preview Sale is for FSL members only. But as always, memberships will be available to purchase or renew at the door. Annual memberships cost $5 per person or $8 per family.

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their SSSSale (Second Saturday Special Sale) on August 8th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Slidell Library, located at 555 Robert Blvd. This month's sale theme will be on items related to History, Biography, Warfare, and the Military.

The Friends’ used book sales, silent auctions, and other special sale events help raise funds to purchase items and fund events for the Slidell, Lacombe, Pearl River, and South Slidell Branch Libraries.
