Library Card Design Contest
Design Our America 250th Library Card
In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Library will commemorate this year with a special anniversary card for patrons. 
 
The card will showcase the spirit of patriotism, the American Dream, and the importance of reading and community.
 
Design guidelines and forms can be obtained at branches or online. All contest submissions must be turned in by April 27th to be considered. 
 
Patrons will vote on the winning designs May 1st through May 7th, and the winner will be announced May 11th. America's 250th Cards will be available for patrons starting in July of this year, while supplies last.

Easter Closure
Library Closures
All St. Tammany Parish Library offices and branches will be closed on April 3rd and on April 4th, for the Easter Holiday.

Monday, April 6th.

Food for Fines
Food for Fines
In celebration of National Library Week, the Library will hold Food for Fines on April 20th through May 2nd
 
Nonperishable food items for local food banks and pet food items for the St. Tammany Parish Government's Department of Animal Services' Pet Food Pantry will be accepted. For every one item donated, $1 of fines and late fees will be waived. Also, during this time, lost cards can be replaced at no cost.

Get ready for a summer of roaring fun with the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, "Unearth A Story!" Two SRC Kickoff Parties will be held: 
 
Thursday, May 21, at the Madisonville branch from 4 to 7 p.m.
 
Friday, May 22, at the Slidell branch from 4 to 7 p.m.

Meet the Author: David Armand
Come and meet local author David Armand and his memoir, The Roads We Travel. Armand uses his own life's journey to becoming a successful writer and teacher as a way to pass on what he's learned over the years about what makes good writing work
 
David will hold his Author Talk at the Causeway branch on April 9th from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Poetry reading from Louisiana's Poet Laureate Gina Ferrara
Join us for a reading from Louisiana's Poet Laureate, Gina Ferrara, followed by a question-and-answer session. Light refreshments will be provided.
 
This event will be held at the Madisonville branch on April 15th from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Meet the Author: Peggy Sweeney McDonald
Louisiana author, actress, and speaker Peggy Sweeney-McDonald will bring her inspiring book presentation based on her memoir Life in the A-Zone: How I Embraced the Journey with My Mother’s Alzheimer’s—One Pink Cloud Moment at a Time to two branches.
Meet the Author: Michael Strecker
Michael Strecker is an award-winning author and stand-up comedian. His comedic New Orleans-based novel "The Knights of Wade" has garnered rave reviews from "Vanity Fair" to "The Times-Picayune." Now in its second printing, the book was nominated for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. 
 
Hear his talk at the Covington branch on April 29th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

KIDS Family Event Spotlights
Need something fun for the little ones? We have hundreds of events this month happening across all of our branches. Here are a couple we thought we'd share to spotlight. No registration is needed for any of these events.
 
KIDS Drop-In Family Event: Gardening With Winnie the Pooh
Families are invited to join us for a delightful children’s event inspired by Winnie the Pooh, where little gardeners can dig into creativity and fun! Kids will enjoy hands-on gardening-themed crafts and activities inspired by the Hundred Acre Wood. 
 
KIDS Movies at the Library: Shrek
Shrek is turning 25! Join us for a picture-perfect afternoon featuring Shrek on the big screen! We’ll reel in the fun with a themed craft and pop some popcorn to level up the fun. It’s a movie, make-it, and munch-it kind of day—a treat for the whole family!

English Country Dancing
English Country Dance
Join local Jane Austen enthusiast, Kathryn Taube, at the Covington branch on Saturday, April 11th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
 
Taube will teach attendees how to dance just like they did in the time of Pride and Prejudice. Festive attire is encouraged, but not required.

Friends of the Library News, Sales and Events

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany will hold their monthly Used Book Sale on April 17th and 18th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their building located at 1301 N. Florida St. in Covington, near the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds.

Some items start as low as 25 cents. Find books, DVDs, music and audio CDs, and puzzles, with a large selection of homeschool items and children's books. All proceeds support St. Tammany Parish Libraries.

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany wrote a Letter to the Community to address the urgent need for a new location. They will be losing their building in June and need the community's help. Please click the button below to view their page and read the letter.

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their next monthly Used Book Sale on May 1st and May 2nd in the Slidell Library meeting room 
  • May 1st - Member's Preview Sale, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  • May 2nd - Public Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
The Member's Preview Sale is for FSL members only. But as always, memberships will be available to purchase or renew at the door. Annual memberships cost $5 per person or $8 per family. 
 
The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their SSSSale (Second Saturday Special Sale) on April 11th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Slidell Library, located at 555 Robert Blvd. This month's sale theme is Newer Fiction.
 
The Friends’ used book sales, silent auctions, and other special sale events help raise funds to purchase items and fund events for the Slidell, Lacombe, Pearl River, and South Slidell Branch Libraries. For more information about FSL, activities, and membership, send an email to fsl70458@yahoo.com.
