Library Lovers' Month
February kicks off National Library Lovers Month, and we are marking the occasion with a series of Valentine’s-themed programs for adults and children.
 
This celebratory month also encourages patrons to not only check out their favorite titles, but also explore the digital databases, specialized programs and learning tools for all ages.

LBOC announces new Library Director
LBOC announces new Library Director
The Library Board of Control named Trevor Collings of Holden, LA, as the new St. Tammany Parish Library Director.
 
Mr. Collings has nearly 15 years of academic, public, suburban and rural library experience. He will be leaving his director position at the Audubon Regional Library and will begin his tenure with the St. Tammany Parish Library System on February 23rd.

Expanded Options for Museum Passes
Expanded Options for Museum Passes
Check Out Louisiana Museums, a program launched last year with the State Library, has now expanded to include the New Orleans Museum of Art.
 
Adult patrons can check out a pass for free entry to several museums across the state. Passes provide free entry for two adults and two children.

Holiday Closure

All St. Tammany Parish Library offices and branches will be closed on February 16th, in observance of Presidents’ Day, and on February 17th, in observance of the Mardi Gras Holiday.
 
All offices and branches will re-open at their regular business hours on February 18th.

Math with Melton
Math with Melton
Join Mrs. Melton, Louisiana's Public Interest Fellowship awardee, in discovering just how fun math can be for the whole family on February 7th at the Madisonville branch from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.!
 
 We'll have fun challenges, chances to win prizes, and a free take-home kit.
 
No registration is needed for this event.

The Hibernians of New Orleans
The Hibernians (Irish) of New Orleans
The St. Tammany Genealogical Society will host a presentation on the history of the Hibernians of New Orleans on February 28th from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Causeway branch. The word Hibernia is the Latin word for Ireland.
 
This presentation discusses the origins and contributions of Irish organizations in New Orleans between 1818 and today, including the Hibernian Society, the Hibernian Benevolent Association, the Hibernia National Bank, the Hibernia Homestead, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), the Ladies Auxiliary of the AOH, the Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Marching Club, the Louisiana Hibernian Charity, and Hibernian Park.

Flavors of Health
Flavors of Health
The Library will be teaming up with the LSU Ag Center to bring a new line of healthy food programs called "Flavors of Health." Each month, a representative from the center will present information on healthy eating and provide a cooking demo at a library branch.
 
A nutrition agent for the LSU Ag Center will discuss the Mediterranean Diet on February 28th at the South Slidell branch from 10 to 11 a.m.

Video Games
New at the Library: Video Games
Video games are now available at the library!  The Library started circulating video games in a small pilot in November 2025, and due to positive feedback, we have plans to expand the collection.
 
Patrons can find games for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles. The video game collection is currently in the Teen sections of the Slidell and Covington branches and can be checked out by patrons with a Juvenile Semi-Restricted card and up.
 
Games are rated E and E10, and are available for 7-day checkouts.

February Events

Friends of the Library News, Sales and Events

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany will hold their monthly Used Book Sale on February 20th and 21st,  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their building located at 1301 N. Florida St. in Covington, near the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds.

Some items start as low as 25 cents. Find books, DVDs, music and audio CDs, and puzzles, with a large selection of homeschool items and children's books. All proceeds support St. Tammany Parish Libraries.

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold two of their most popular annual fundraisers, Second Glance at Romance & Batteries Not Included Sales, on February 6th and 7th in the Slidell Library meeting room. 
 
The Second Glance at Romance Sale includes paperback romance novels, which are sold for $1 per bag. 
 
The Batteries Not Included Sale includes items such as CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, books with companion discs, sheet music, other audio-visual items, educational workbooks/teaching materials, and miscellaneous non-book items. Special sale items include a collection of vinyl records priced at $1 per record and a large assortment of jigsaw puzzles.
  • February 6th - Member's Preview Sale, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  • February 7th - Public Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
The Member's Preview Sale is for FSL members only. But as always, memberships will be available to purchase or renew at the door. Annual memberships cost $5 per person or $8 per family. 
 
The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their SSSSale (Second Saturday Special Sale) on February 14th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Slidell Library, located at 555 Robert Blvd. Cookbooks and books about food and beverage topics are this month's theme.
 
The Friends’ used book sales, silent auctions, and other special sale events help raise funds to purchase items and fund events for the Slidell, Lacombe, Pearl River, and South Slidell Branch Libraries. For more information about FSL, activities, and membership, send an email to fsl70458@yahoo.com.
