In November, budding authors are encouraged to start their first novel draft by writing 50,000 words in 30 days. The library has all the resources you will need to start this journey, which include in-person events, library materials, online classes and eBooks.

Attend a Writing Workshop led by Joy E. Rancatore 
Local award-winning author Joy E. Rancatore will host a Writing Workshop at the Causeway branch from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on November 14th to help authors tackle writing fears and free their mindsets from writer’s block.
 
 As a nod to Indie Author weekend, Joy will also explain what indie publishing is—and isn't—and why she chose the indie path.

Dr. Bruce Craft leads the third session of his 4-part series on Louisiana Folk Life at the Causeway branch on November 4th. This event will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will explore the history of the Islenos.

Empowered Communities: Seizure First Aid and Safety Training
Empowered Communities:
Seizure First Aid and Safety Training
1 in 10 people may experience a seizure in their lifetime. Register to receive training in learning Seizure First Aid at the Covington branch on November 15th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
 
November's Empowered Communities is provided by the Epilepsy Alliance of Louisiana, which is dedicated to supporting those impacted by epilepsy in local communities by confronting the spectrum of challenges created by seizures.

Outdoor Movie Night
Movie Night at Covington Branch
Bring a few folding chairs, some blankets, and head to the Covington branch to watch an outdoor showing of The Princess Bride on November 24th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  No card, no ticket, and no fees to enjoy this family favorite.
 
The Flying Pig Food Truck will also swing by during the film with food to purchase.
 
*Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Winter Reading Challenge
Get Reading this Winter
The annual Winter Reading Challenge is starting earlier this year, giving you more time to complete your BINGO card and win more prizes!
 
Adults, teens and kids can preregister now on Beanstack and start earning badges on November 24th.
 
The 2025-2026 Winter Reading Challenge will run from November 24th through January 19th.

Holiday Closure
Happy Thanksgiving
All St. Tammany Parish Library offices and branches will be closed
November 27th - November 29th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
 
Branches and offices will resume normal business hours on December 1, 2025.

November Events

Friends of the Library News, Sales and Events

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany will hold their monthly Used Book Sale on November 21st and 22nd,  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their building located at 1301 N. Florida St. in Covington, near the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds.

Some items start as low as 25 cents. Find books, DVDs, music and audio CDs, and puzzles, with a large selection of homeschool items and children's books. All proceeds support St. Tammany Parish Libraries.

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their SSSSale (Second Saturday Special Sale) on November 8th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Slidell Library, located at 555 Robert Blvd. This month's theme is Cookbooks.
 
The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will have their next Used Book Sale on December 5th and 6th in the Slidell Library meeting room.
  • December 5th - Member's Preview Sale, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  • December 6th - Public Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
The Member's Preview Sale is for FSL members only. But as always, memberships will be avilable to purchase or renew at the door. Annual memberships cost $5 per person or $8 per family. 
 
The Friends’ used book sales, silent auctions, and other special sale events help raise funds to purchase items and fund events for the Slidell, Lacombe, Pearl River, and South Slidell Branch Libraries. For more information about FSL, activities, and membership, send an email to fsl70458@yahoo.com.
