Service Update: Waived print and fax fees for Veterans
Following a meeting between VFW representatives Jay Evans and Terry Sauls and Library Administration, the Library Board of Control passed a resolution at the August meeting to update service fees.

The resolution updates the Library's policies to waive printing and faxing fees for all active-duty military, reservists, veterans, and Louisiana National Guard members. This decision was made to show the Library’s deep appreciation for their service and to ensure these valuable resources are accessible without cost.

Community Input Meetings
Two of our branches have some exciting upgrades in store. We held a total of four community input meetings last month, two for the Slidell branch (555 Robert Blvd.) and two for the Lacombe branch, to gather the community's feedback. The Slidell meetings were for input for the upcoming renovations, and the Lacombe meetings were for the new replacement Lacombe branch.

Library Administration presented nearly 80 concepts recommended from earlier community input, and attendees were able to vote for their favorites. We're now reviewing the results and look forward to more community meetings in the future to continue shaping the final designs together.

Author Talks
Join us for two special opportunities to meet author De'Lisa Rowe-Tate as she discusses her book, "The Caregiver’s Journey." She will be at the South Slidell branch on August 11th and at the Slidell branch on August 12th. Both events will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Later in the month, you can hear from journalist Suzie Bronk Hunt, who will share her expertise on preserving family stories. She will be speaking at the Slidell branch on August 25th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

New Playaways
Starting August 25th, the Mandeville Branch Library is introducing a new checkout item: Playaway devices.

These portable devices come preloaded with a complete audiobook, offering a simple way to listen without needing an internet connection or downloads. All you need are headphones or an audio cable to connect to your preferred speaker to begin enjoying a story.

The Mandeville Branch will be the pilot for this resource; depending on the popularity, it may reach all branches in the future.
