Summer Reading Challenge 2025 Kickoff Parties

Summer Reading is on its way!

Each year, we kick off the Summer Reading Challenge with themed parties, and this year’s theme is "Art Festival."

The first kickoff is on Thursday, May 22nd, at the Slidell Branch, and the second is on Friday, May 23rd, at the Madisonville Branch. Both events will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Garden Fest: Spring Into Fun

Join us on Saturday, May 3rd, at the Covington Branch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a Garden Fest! In collaboration with the St. Tammany Master Gardeners, the event will feature talks on pollinators, vermiculture, and more, plus kids’ seed planting, tasty treats, and a summer lawn care talk by guest speaker Will Afton.

Author Talk Event

Local author De'Lisa Rowe-Tate will visit the Library twice in May to discuss her book The Caregiver's Journey.

Rowe will be at the South Slidell Branch on Tuesday, May 6th, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Slidell Branch on Tuesday, May 13th, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Join us in listening to Rowe as she shares the role, personality, and challenges of the professional caregiver.

Registration is required for both events.

Memorial Day Closure

All St. Tammany Parish Library offices and branches will be closed on Monday, May 26th, in observance of Memorial Day.

Library offices and branches will re-open at their regular hours the following day on Tuesday, May 27th.

Sunday, May 11th, is Mother's Day, and the Library recognizes that moms come in many forms, but their love is always endless. We wish all the amazing moms and mother figures a Happy Mother's Day!

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany will hold their monthly Used Book Sale on May 16th and May 17th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their building located at 1301 N. Florida St. in Covington, near the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds.

Some items start as low as 25 cents. Find books, DVDs, music and audio CDs, and puzzles, with a large selection of homeschool items and children's books. All proceeds support St. Tammany Parish Libraries.

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) will hold their Used Book Sale on May 16th and May 17th at the Slidell Library located at 555 Robert Blvd.

May 16th Sale (5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) - MEMBERS ONLY
This sale is only for FSL Members only however, memberships and renewals will be purchasable at the door. Annual memberships cost $5.00 for individuals and $8.00 for families.
May 17th Sale (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) - Public Sale
This sale is open to the public.

The Friends will hold their SSSSale (Second Saturday Special Sale) on May 10th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Slidell Library. This month's theme will be items related to World War II.

The Friends’ used book sales, silent auctions, and other special sale events help raise funds to purchase items and fund events for the Slidell, Lacombe, Pearl River, and South Slidell Branch Libraries.
