The Causeway Branch underwent renovations last month with fresh paint, new carpet and some new additions. Study pods, a new circulation desk, and an interactive PLAY table were added to the branch. In addition, a new short wall was installed to clearly separate the children’s area from other spaces.

We invite you to stop by the Causeway Branch to see what's new in person!

The Friends of the Slidell Library (FSL) contracted with local landscape architects Buck Abbey and Christy Kervin to create a comprehensive design for the greenspace in the new Slidell Library parking lot.

Last year, the Friends formed a committee made up of FSL members, local Master Gardeners, and representatives from the Library. This group met several times to develop a vision for the green space. The committee then hired and worked with the landscape architects over several months to make that vision into a plan.

(Pictured from Left to right: Yvonne Giovingo, St. Tammany Parish Master Gardener; Prof. Buck Abbey, ASLA; Christy Kervin, CLARB Certified Landscape Architect; Eddy Krzymowski, Friends of the Slidell Library; Ruthanne Johnson, St. Tammany Parish Master Gardener; Hilari Melerine, Slidell Branch Manager; Becky Taylor, Friends of the Slidell Library; Jerry Ann Henderson, Friends of the Slidell Library; Tassie Wahl, St. Tammany Parish Master Gardener; and Sherri Kaba, Friends of the Slidell Library)

The plan includes extensive planting of native trees, a camellia garden, sensory gardens, a pathway, benches and tables, interactive features, and eventually a new location for the Master Gardner's herb gardens.

Committee members met one last time with the architects on October 24th to go over the final designs. The plan will be implemented in stages and may take a couple of years to complete. However, work should begin in early 2025.

The finalized drawings and schedules of plants will be on display at the Slidell Branch once the architects make their last refinements.

All branches and offices will be CLOSED on November 28th, 29th and 30th for the Thanksgiving Holidays.

November 11th is Veteran’s Day. All Library branches and offices will be OPEN and we encourage patrons to visit our Veterans History Project to hear first-hand accounts from local veterans.
