The St. Tammany Parish Library has teamed up with the
Town of Madisonville to promote the arts this month. The Town of Madisonville will be holding two contests for art and writing and the library will be assisting with providing entry information, collecting entries, and hosting the art displays and award ceremony.
St. Tammany Parish students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in an art competition to celebrate the late Mayor of Madisonville, Peter L. Gitz. The theme is, “The Town of Madisonville.”
Architecture, flora, fauna, and landscapes should inspire ideas for the student’s art. There are three options for mediums: painting, drawing, and photography. The deadline is Wednesday, August 21st.
All student artwork should be brought to the
Madisonville Library at 1123 Main St, Madisonville, LA 70447.
Aspiring writers are also invited to enter the essay competition. All St. Tammany Parish 10th-grade students are eligible to enter. The prompt is “Madisonville: Celebrations, History, Memories” and essays must be received by Wednesday, August 28th either emailed, mailed, or brought to the Madisonville Branch.
Student artwork will be displayed during the weeks of August 23rd through September 7th at the Madisonville Library, also known as the Mayor Peter L. Gitz Library. An Award Ceremony, planned for Thursday, September 12th from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m., will also be held in the large Conference Room at the Madisonville Library.
