Summer Reading Challenge begins on May 23rd and will continue through July 27th. This year’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” All ages are invited and encouraged to join in as each age group has its own reading time goals, ways to complete its challenge and prizes.
 
Get ready to start your adventure at the Library with our two kickoff parties! Parties are being held on May 23rd at the Slidell Branch (555 Robert Blvd.) and on May 24th at the Madisonville Branch (1123 Main St.) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both parties this year will be Renaissance Fair Themed. Costumes are encouraged, and so are adventurous imaginations!

Starting May 1st through May 10th, artwork will be on display at the South Slidell Branch (3901 Pontchartrain Dr.), highlighting creative pieces made by 4th through 8th grade Talented Art Students from Abney Elementary, Boyet Junior High, Bonne Ecole Elementary, Brock Elementary, Clearwood Junior High, Clearwood Junior High and St. Tammany Junior High.
 
A closing reception will be held at the South Slidell Branch on May 10th from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The Slidell Branch will be hosting French harpist, Claire Le Fur, on May 4th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
 
Franck Bilot, a clarinetist from French Guyana and Sissi, a French Creole drummer from Martinique will perform with Claire Le Fur.
 
Warm-ups and a rehearsal are from noon till about 2 p.m. The concert begins at 2 p.m. The public is invited to watch both.  

Meet New Orleans-based novelist, essayist and playwright, Michael Allen Zell at the Slidell Branch on May 14th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Zell will discuss his new book, a psychological crime drama, The Last Shadow, answer your questions and sign books.
 
Crime fiction is Zell’s favorite genre to write, which can be seen in his previous crime fiction series starring his character, Bobby Delery, a Tulane University Criminology professor, who is forced to right wrongs on the streets of New Orleans. His first novel, Errata, was named a 'Top 10 Book of 2012' by The New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Want to learn how to relax and expand your imagination and creativity? The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. 
 
To learn more about the Zentangle Method, register for the upcoming class on May 15th at the Causeway Branch. The class will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
 
There will also be a discussion on how creative activities like Zentangle help to engage the brain in new ways to keep it healthy and library resources that benefit brain health.

Celebrate the heroes in your family who served in the military. The Library invites you to our next Fold3 class, being held on May 16th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Covington Branch.
 
Learn how to use the database Fold3 to locate military records and create a memory page for your loved ones.
 
This class is free and open to the public. Seating space is limited to adults. However, registration is required.

All St. Tammany Parish Library Offices and Branches will be closed on May 27, 2024, in honor of Memorial Day and in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany will hold their monthly Used Book Sale on May 17th and 18th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their building located at 1301 N. Florida St. in Covington, near the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds. Some items start as low as 25 cents. Find books, DVDs, music and audio CDs, and puzzles, with a large selection of homeschool items and children's books. All proceeds support St. Tammany Parish Libraries. 

Each month the Friends hold a silent auction at the Covington Library with an array of interesting titles. Check the Covington Library for the auction list and starting bids.

The Friends of the Slidell Library will hold a used book sale in the Slidell Library meeting room (555 Robert Blvd.), on Friday, May 17th, and Saturday, May 18th. On Friday, the members’ only preview sale will take place from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Only members may select and purchase books on Friday, but memberships are available for sale or renewal at the door. Annual memberships cost $5 for individuals and $8 for families. New and renewing members receive one annual membership premium $5 gift certificate to be used during any FSL sale event in 2024. The public sale will be held Saturday, May 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Book prices will range from .50 cents for mass-market paperbacks, teen, and children’s books to $1.00 for trade paperback and hardcover books.

There will be a selection of Little Golden Books available for shoppers, titles in large print, specially bundled cookbooks and children’s books, and specially priced sets of books.  Shoppers will enjoy browsing the several thousand titles available for all ages and interests both fiction and non-fiction.

The Friends of the Slidell Library will hold a SSSSale on Saturday, May 11th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Slidell Library, 555 Robert Blvd. Second Saturday Special Sales include several hundred specially selected items on a particular subject or theme. Sale items will have standard prices ranging from .50 to $5.00 each. 

The contents of this sale will include pre-owned books, comic books, graphic novels, vintage magazines, historical newspaper sections, etc. related to popular culture.

Cash and personal checks are accepted for purchases. All proceeds support the Slidell, Pearl River, South Slidell, and Lacombe Libraries.

Food for Fines was a huge success, with over 1800 lbs. of non-perishable food collected and donated to local food banks. 

Our South Slidell branch took on some damage from the storm system that hit the Slidell area on April 10th.
By noon on April 15th, the branch was reopened to the public.
From April 11th - April 27th all fines and fees were waived system-wide to assist those affected by the storm.
